Cavaliers' J.R. Smith: Buries four three-pointers in comeback win
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Smith (hamstring) started at shooting guard and submitted 13 points (4-9 FG, 4-8 3Pt, 1-2 FT), two rebounds and two assists across 31 minutes in a 119-114 win over the Pacers on Thursday in Game 3 of the series.

Smith picked up a hamstring injury in Game 2 that forced his early departure and kept him questionable heading into Game 3, but he was able to suit up and helped give the Cavs a lift with Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love combining to shoot 8-for-29 from the field. The Cavaliers have been waiting patiently for Smith to break out of his season-long shooting slump, and perhaps his solid showing from beyond the arc Thursday will serve as a springboard for him to offer a more consistent impact on the offensive end. He had connected on only 25.6 percent of his three-point attempts in his last seven games heading into Thursday.

Cavaliers' J.R. Smith: Will play in Game 3
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Smith (hamstring) will start at shooting guard in Thursday's Game 3 against the Pacers, Jason Lloyd of The Athletic Cleveland reports.

Smith exited early in Game 2 on Monday after injuring his left hamstring, and it was initially unclear if he'd be able to play Thursday. However, after Smith participated in Wednesday's practice session and partaking in morning shootaround Thursday, the Cavs were comfortable signing off on his return to action. It's not anticipated that Smith will face any limitations, but if coach Tyronn Lue elects to reduce Smith's role, Kyle Korver and Iman Shumpert would fall into some extra playing time.

Cavaliers' J.R. Smith: Questionable for Game 3
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Smith (hamstring) is officially listed as questionable for Thursday's Game 3 against the Pacers, Marla Ridenour of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.

Smith injured his hamstring during Game 2 on Monday, missing the entire second half of the contest. A subsequent MRI came back negative, so he's been cleared of anything more serious, although he'll still head into Thursday with a questionable designation. Smith was able to go through a full practice Wednesday, which bodes well for his availability moving forward, but a final verdict likely won't be given until after Thursday's morning shootaround once we know how Smith's hamstring responded to the increase in activity. If Smith is ultimately held out, Iman Shumpert and Kyle Korver figure to cover his minutes.

Cavaliers' J.R. Smith: Testing hamstring at practice
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Smith (hamstring) was seen jogging and going through a shooting workout at Wednesday's practice, Marla Ridenour of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.

Smith appeared to tweak his left hamstring just before halftime of Monday's Game 2 win over Indiana, and he did not appear in the second half. The 31-year-old looked to be in considerable discomfort while making his way back to the locker room, but the fact that he's active at practice Wednesday has to be viewed as a positive indication. Smith should still be considered questionable in advance of Thursday's Game 4, and if he's ultimately held out, both Iman Shumpert, who didn't play at all in Game 1, and Kyle Korver would stand to benefit. Smith, himself, told reporters that he feels all right and hopes to play Thursday. "I hate sitting out," Smith said.

Cavaliers' J.R. Smith: Requires further testing on hamstring
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Smith (hamstring) will undergo further testing before his availability for Game 3 against Indiana on Thursday is determined, Allie Clifton of FOX Sports reports.

Smith was relegated to only 18 minutes of action during Monday's Game 2 after he suffered an injury to his left hamstring. The severity and specificity of the injury remains unclear, but Iman Shumpert will likely see the biggest boost in usage if Smith is somehow unable to play in Game 3.
