Player to Watch: Jeremy Lin. For whatever reason, Lin has already become a cult basketball star. He's the Harvard grad who blew people away with his summer league fearlessness and ability. He got a guaranteed contract from the Warriors and is already becoming one of the faces of the team and probably the fan favorite. Everyone has him dubbed a sleeper and a ready-made scorer that's going to make an impact.

Did I mention he hasn't played a game yet? While Lin was impressive during the summer, he's still an unknown. Right now he's third on the depth chart behind Charlie Bell for backup point guard duties, so he's got to work to earn time on the floor as well.

Camp Battles: Who's backing up David Lee at power forward? Ekpe Udoh was hurt this summer with a wrist injury, but is he ready to find rotation time in front of Brandan Wright? Wright has always seemed to find himself in Nelson's dog house, but with Udoh's setback, Wright may get his chances.

• SG Eric Gordon
• PG Baron Davis

Player to Watch: Blake Griffin. Remember him? Yeah, this guy? Supposedly, he's back to his old, dunk-on-your-face self. With a full season already under his belt in which he didn't play, you can bet he's hungry. Griffin is a tremendous talent that's been compared to players like Karl Malone and Carlos Boozer. He's going to be ready and he's going to be a monster.

Camp Battles: The Clippers' roster is pretty close to completely set, but if there's one interesting battle to watch it's at small forward. The Clips took Al Farouq-Aminu in the lottery and plan for him to be a small forward scorer. They also signed Ryan Gomes in the offseason. Aminu could potentially beat out Gomes for the starting spot, especially because the Clippers have an eye toward the future right now. More than likely Gomes has the job, but if you're looking for a position competition to watch, that's the one.

• SG Kobe Bryant
• PG Derek Fisher

Player to Watch: Andrew Bynum. As you can tell from his name being omitted from the training camp starting lineup (which matters only for scrimmaging purposes), Bynum is hurt again. Well, not so much hurt again, but rather still hurt Ė or better yet, not recovered. After the praise Bynum received for playing through a significant knee injury during the Finals, heís receiving equal parts scorn for delaying surgery until after he completed a planned trip to the World Cup. Both were deserved. Coach Phil Jackson said Friday that he canít see how Bynum will be ready for the start of the regular season.

Camp Battle: The Lakers really only face their usual battles with drama, with Kobeís moods, and with Artestís Twitter ramblings. Once Bynum is healthy, the rotation is pretty much set.

Phoenix Suns
Training camp site: San Diego, Calif.
Training camp starting date: Sept. 28
Team page | Depth chart
Key additions
• SF Josh Childress
• SF Hedo Turkoglu
• PF Hakim Warrick
• PF Gani Lawal
Key subtractions
• SG Leandro Barbosa
• PF Amar'e Stoudemire
Probable starters entering camp:
• C Robin Lopez
• PF Hakim Warrick
• SF Hedo Turkoglu
• SG Jason Richardson
• PG Steve Nash

Player to Watch: Hakim Warrick. Warrick has never really impressed anyone with his play. He's been good, he can dunk, but he's never blown anyone away. He's also never had Steve Nash working with him in the pick and roll. That's a huge step. He needs to work on his defense and finishing like Amar'e did with his athleticism if he wants to get a starting spot, because Turkoglu will likely get a lot of time there, as weird as that is. Warrick also needs to work on his mid-range game to be more of a threat all over the floor.

Camp Battles: The entire frontcourt. Robin Lopez probably has the biggest lock on the starting gig at center, but Channing Frye may push him as he did last year. Josh Childress, Grant Hill, Hedo Turkoglu, Hakim Warrick, Jared Dudley, and Earl Clark will battle it out for the 3 and 4 slots (with Childress likely to spend a lot of time at backup shooting guard). They've got a lot of weapons, a lot of versatilty, and no clear-cut leaders at those positions. Should be a fun competition.

Key additions
• C Samuel Dalembert
• SF Antoine Wright
• PG Luther Head
• PF DeMarcus Cousins
Key subtractions
• C Spencer Hawes
• PF Jon Brockman
• SF Andres Nocioni
Probable starters entering camp:
• C Samuel Dalembert
• PF Carl Landry
• SF Donte Greene
• SG Beno Udrih
• PG Tyreke Evans

Tyreke Evans and Donte Greene (Getty Images)
Player to Watch: DeMarcus Cousins. There's no getting around it. "Boogie" is the guy you want to keep an eye on. He could dominate. He could underwhelm. He could blow up on his teammates. he could fit in seamlessly. He could add weight. He could slim down. Anything is possible with Cousins, and his progression will be a huge factor in how the Kings do this season.

Camp Battles: All eyes on small forward, as Donte Greene and Omri Casspi battle for control of the universe... I mean, small forward spot. Greene has more experience and athleticism, but Casspi is arguably more skilled. This is going to be and intense and close fight. Sorting out the rest of the frontcourt will be tough as well with experience (Dalembert, Landry) versus upside (Thompson and Cousins) as well as slotting positions.
