Blazers keep Outlaw on board with 3-year contract

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Restricted free-agent forward Travis Outlaw is staying with the Portland Trail Blazers.

Outlaw, a four-year veteran, signed a three-year deal, the team announced Wednesday. Terms of the agreement were not released.

Outlaw has averaged 6.8 points and 2.6 rebounds over his career, but he has steadily improved. Last season, he averaged 9.6 points and 3.2 boards.

"Travis enjoyed what we feel was a breakout season last year on both ends of the floor," Trail Blazers general manager Kevin Pritchard said. "His athleticism and high-flying style of play add another level of excitement to the team and we are thrilled to have him back."

The 6-foot-9 small forward was drafted with the 23rd overall pick of the 2003 draft out of Starkville High School in Mississippi.

The Trail Blazers have the maximum 15 players on their roster. Because Outlaw was a restricted free agent, the Blazers were allowed to match any offer to him.

Agent Bill Duffy said Outlaw was excited about staying in Portland to play with top draft pick Greg Oden, as well as Rookie of the Year Brandon Roy and LaMarcus Aldridge.
