Preseason Power Rankings: Spurs tip off season No. 1

Updated Oct. 25

If you've been following the CBSSports.com preview series or if you're mildly observant, you will have noticed that the preseason rankings have gone in descending order based on projected win totals.

The notable exception comes at the top, where it was deemed impossible not to give defending champion San Antonio its due. The Spurs might finish with fewer wins than Phoenix, which plays in a much easier division, but given that almost everyone returns, it's only right that they start at the top.

The Spurs are the hunted, so let them start out with the largest target on their backs.

The majority of NBA general managers agree, with 37 percent predicting the Spurs will win the championship. The Suns came in second at 26 percent, backing the sentiment that they'll be the toughest obstacle for San Antonio to clear in its quest to repeat.
