Bulls' Rose ready to roll up his sleeves

Such rookie tasks as fetching doughnuts and carrying bags that Rose will perform ad nauseam as the only first-year player on the roster will be as well. Demonstrating his trademark unflappability, Rose joked about those tasks before turning serious - and humble - when asked his summer-league goals.

"I just want to learn and work hard and listen to all the veteran players and coaches," Rose said. "I want pressure because that means you're doing something right. I think I can lead the team, but I'll listen to the veterans who told me to stay humble and focused."

In some ways, mini-camp and summer league will be a break from the dizzying off-court demands Rose has faced since Thursday's draft. Addressing those revealed Rose's first hint of vulnerability.

"Going out with my family after the draft and my agency and meeting new people and then going to the White Sox game to throw out the first pitch, it's been overwhelming," Rose said. "You get exhausted. The last couple of days I've just been sleeping and hanging with my family."

Rose's family turned out in force for his special day, savoring the moment before the real work begins.
