Dallas Mavericks re-sign Antoine Wright

Jul. 12--Slowly but surely, the Mavericks are rebuilding their roster depth as third-year swingman Antoine Wright agreed to a two-year guaranteed contract on Friday.

Wright was one of the players who came with Jason Kidd in the trade from New Jersey. He averaged 6.3 points in 56 games last season, but his role was diminished with the Mavericks, who were and remain stacked with swingmen.

"Antoine is a good, young player who is just coming into his prime," said Donnie Nelson, the Mavericks' president of basketball operations. "He has a very bright future in Dallas."

Wright was the 15th overall pick in the 2005 draft and gives the Mavericks two of the top 18 picks from that draft. Gerald Green (No. 18) signed with the team last week.

It is believed the Mavericks started Wright somewhere in the same neighborhood as his $1.7-million salary of last season.

In addition, the Mavericks signed point guard Keith McLeod and forward James Singleton to veteran-minimum contracts.

The contract for Singleton, who played two seasons for the Los Angeles Clippers before going to Europe last season, is guaranteed. McLeod, who has extended NBA experience at Indiana and Utah, is working on a make-good contract.

Both are taking part in the Mavericks' summer league at Las Vegas.

The Mavericks have 14 players under contract for the 2008-09 season: Dirk Nowitzki, Josh Howard, Kidd, Jason Terry, Erick Dampier, Jerry Stackhouse, DeSagana Diop, Brandon Bass, Eddie Jones, Green, J.J. Barea, Wright, McLeod and Singleton.

Clippers 86, Mavericks 68: Eric Gordon scored 23 points as Los Angeles whipped the Mavericks in a summer league opener Friday at Las Vegas.

James Singleton led Dallas with 13 points.
