Miami Heat finalizes deal with Dorell Wright

Aug. 21--Dorell Wright's first foray into free agency officially ended today, with the Miami Heat announcing it has signed the former first-round draft pick.

Terms were not announced, but it was confirmed Wednesday that the fifth-year swingman received a two-year guaranteed contract, with the first year in the range of the $2.9 million qualifying offer the Heat had extended to retain its right of first refusal for the restricted free agent.

Wright becomes the 13th Heat player with a guaranteed contract for the upcoming seasons. Teams are allowed to carry a maximum of 15 players during the regular season, with 12 active per game.

With the signing of Wright, the Heat has just about reached the finish line with its free agents.

Earlier this summer, the Heat picked up the 2008-09 guarantees on the contracts of center Joel Anthony and forward Stephane Lasme, while bypassing a similar option on the contract of forward Alexander Johnson.

In addition, guard Jason Williams and forward Ricky Davis signed as free agents with the Los Angeles Clippers, while center Earl Barron has agreed to a deal with Italian Serie A team Fortitudo Bologna, where he will play as a teammate of former Heat forward Qyntel Woods.

The Heat continues to have qualifying offers in place for restricted free agents Chris Quinn and Kasib Powell. The offer to Powell is not guaranteed.

Mark Bartelstein, the agent for Quinn, said Thursday the point guard "has an open mind" when it comes to a potential return to the Heat. Powell, the forward who was Most Valuable Player last season in the NBA Development League, has spent much of the summer working out with the Heat.

Guard Blake Ahearn, who finished last season with the Heat, could wind up with a training-camp invitation from the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Center Alonzo Mourning also is an unrestricted free agent, with his Heat return contingent on his recovery from last season's knee injury.
