Roundup: Turkoglu, Magic hold off Butler's Wizards

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Hedo Turkoglu scored 22 points and the Orlando Magic held off a late scoring burst by Caron Butler in an 89-80 victory over the Washington Wizards on Tuesday.

Butler had 29 points, all in the second half, but the recently energized Wizards (7-26) failed in their bid to win for the fourth time in six games.

Orlando center Dwight Howard had his league-leading 25th double-double, with 15 points and 16 rebounds. Jameer Nelson added 14 points for the Magic, who rebounded from their loss at Toronto on Sunday.

Antawn Jamison scored 13 for the Wizards, who fell to 0-3 against Orlando this season.

Orlando opened the fourth quarter hitting only three of its first 15 shots as the Wizards drew within 83-80 in the final two minutes.

Nelson hit a basket and Howard made a pair of free throws with 34 seconds left to seal the game.

Butler had 21 points in the third quarter, three short of tying Los Angeles guard Kobe Bryant's Magic opponent record set in 2004. Full story

Sixers 104, Rockets 96

PHILADELPHIA -- Andre Iguodala scored 28 points and the reeling Philadelphia 76ers returned home from a dreadful road trip to beat the Houston Rockets.

The Sixers needed to escape the Lone Star State to finally defeat a team from Texas. They lost at Dallas and San Antonio in the final two games of a 1-5 road trip and had lost five of seven overall, parking them in last place in the Atlantic Division.

Heading home was the perfect tonic. Iguodala continued on his recent scoring surge and scored nine points in the third quarter to help the Sixers stretch the lead to 11.

Iguodala nailed a 3-pointer in front of the Rockets bench late in the fourth to halt Houston's 11-2 run that had sliced the gap to six. He sank a runner in the lane for a 98-92 lead that dashed Houston's last-gasp at a comeback win.

Timberwolves 94, Grizzlies 87

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Randy Foye scored 23 points, including the go-ahead 3-pointer with 40 seconds left, and the Minnesota Timberwolves weathered a late rally to beat the Memphis Grizzlies.

Following his basket, Foye blocked O.J. Mayo's shot on the next Memphis possession, leading to a fast-break basket by Ryan Gomes, and the Timberwolves secured their third straight win -- their longest winning streak since January 2007.

Al Jefferson added 19 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks for Minnesota. Craig Smith had 15 points, Gomes 14 and Sebastian Telfair finished with 10 points and nine assists.

Hakim Warrick scored 22 points, and Mayo added 20 points, eight rebounds and five assists for Memphis. Marc Gasol had 13 points and Rudy Gay 12 as Memphis shot 42 percent.

Bulls 99, Kings 94

CHICAGO -- Ben Gordon scored 24 points and the Chicago Bulls beat the Sacramento Kings to snap a three-game losing streak.

The Bulls converted 33 of 36 free throws, and the three foul shots they missed nearly cost them the game.

After making its first 29, Chicago converted just four of its final seven, allowing Sacramento to stay in the game.

Trailing 97-94 after Chicago's Drew Gooden hit 1-of-2 with 9.1 seconds left, Sacramento had a chance to tie it. But Kevin Martin missed a finger roll with four seconds left, and Thabo Sefolosha hit two more free throws to seal it for Chicago.
