Farmar looking to be starter, hopes it's with Lakers

SINGAPORE -- Lakers reserve point guard Jordan Farmar wants be a starter, either with Los Angeles or another NBA team.

"I want to run a team and be the lead guard," Farmar said Tuesday on the sidelines of a basketball clinic in Singapore. "Hopefully, it can be here [with the Lakers].

"There's a lot of jobs out there. I feel I have a lot to offer."

Farmar, 22, averaged 6.4 points and 2.4 assists in 65 regular-season games last season as the Lakers won their 15th championship. Farmar, who will be entering his fourth year with the Lakers, saw his playing time drop last season to an average of 18.3 minutes per game from 20.6 the previous season.

Farmar said he wasn't surprised general manager Mitch Kupchak fielded trade offers from other teams during the offseason.

"I've talked to Mitch a bunch of times and he says he's got a ton of offers and didn't consider trading me," Farmar said. "It's just you have to entertain all the offers you get.

"Since I haven't got traded, it means they want me here."

Farmar, who grew up in Los Angeles and played two seasons at UCLA, said veteran point guard Derek Fisher will likely begin next season as the starter again.

"Derek's had a great run," he said. "He's probably going to be the guy starting off. I just want to continue to push him."

Farmar said it's difficult to find opportunities to shine in the Lakers' star-studded lineup, which includes 11-time All-Star Kobe Bryant.

"It's hard. He's the best," Farmar said when asked about playing with Bryant. "He demands a lot of attention. He demands the ball a lot of the time.

"It's tough for any young player to come into a really good team and try to find their niche."

Farmar said he expects forward Ron Artest, who signed with the Lakers this summer, to fit in well with his new team.

"He's a great guy," Farmar said. "He's never had any problem with any of his teammates. He's coming over here because he wants to win."

Jordan Farmar does not have starter's ability.  He is at best a career backup.  Name a starter in the league that farmar is better than.

Did you know that last saeson Shaq had a higher shooting percentage...from the free throw line than farmar!?

What kind of starting PG can't make free throws?

Yeah its me, the Lakers troll.

Jordan Farmar isn't the best point guard in the NBA, but he's better than some other starters in the league.  His confidence can be questioned at times, but that's what happens when 'the superstar' jumps down your throat

I don't get Laker fans! What would you like the guy to say, I don't want to start I'm good with just playing minimal minutes and collecting a check? He should be starting over Derek Fisher. Derek Fisher couldn't guard any pgs in the western conference when he was in his 20s and now he can't even dream about it. Did you hear very mu ...(more)

In addition to having great vision and excellent play-making skills, point guards have to have a killer instinct.
Farmar is too laid back; and though he can handle, he doesn't show me a point guards temperament.
The argument that he's young and plays with a team of all stars, which includes Kobe Bryant--whom Farmar r

If Farmar is really serious about being a starter he has LOTS of work to do.

1) He needs to improve his defensive quickness.  Everytime the kid is on the floor he is a defensive liability.

2) He needs to improve his consistency when shooting.  There are times he looks like a solid 3 point shooter and times I don't even want him touching the ball.  He has shot,

I love you Jordan but you need to work on some skills. Defense and leading. There are too many big name players and THEE biggest superstar to deal with. A great shooter and slasher butr defense needs a little improvement and ball handling. A young player with his best days ahead. Fisher will be gone soon and he can take the reigns. Looks like his biggest enemy right now is ...(more)

The article says he's 22, 4 year pro, and went to cllege for two years. So he played enough to get drafted at 16 and 17? This must be a mistake
