Sources: Fight with Grizz 'mate leaves Mayo's face 'swollen'

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Grizzlies teammates O.J. Mayo and Tony Allen were involved in a fight with each other that stemmed from a gambling dispute during a card game on the flight home from Los Angeles after Sunday night's win over the Lakers, three different sources have told CBSSports.com.

Two of those sources said the altercation left Mayo with a noticeably "swollen" face.

Mayo did not play in Tuesday night's 110-105 win over Oklahoma City.

Grizzlies officials announced before tipoff that Mayo was not at FedExForum and that he would not participate in the game because of "bronchitis."

The Grizzlies released a statement after CBSSports.com's initial report. It read: "There was a brief altercation between Tony Allen and O.J. Mayo. The club considers the matter closed and will not comment further."

It's unclear whether the Grizzlies reported the altercation to NBA security, which the league requires.

Mayo is a reserve guard averaging 13.2 points per game.

The former lottery pick reportedly has been a part of recent trade discussions.

Allen started Tuesday against Oklahoma City, played 32 minutes and scored 19 points in the victory. The 6-foot-4 guard entered averaging just 5.3 points in his first season with the Grizzlies. He played for the Celtics last season.
