Jamison not contributing on offense so far

The Sports Xchange

--F Antawn Jamison has been a 20-point scorer six times in his NBA career. However, just like a year ago, he's gotten off to a slow start. In two preseason games and the one intrasquad scrimmage, he's averaging 9.3 points and shooting 29 percent from the field (9 of 31). He wasn't much better in the season opener even though he had 15 points. He made just 6 of 20 from the field. "I can still get it done on a night-to-night basis offensively," Jamison said. "But where they really need me to hold up my end is on defense. Whenever they need me to score, I'll be there."

--C Anderson Varejao has a new favorite player -- F Tristan Thompson. "I like his game," he said. "He reminds me of me. He goes after every loose ball, always playing hard. ... I told him, 'Play the game. The offense will come.' " Thompson's offense is still a bit suspect. He's working on his shot daily with the Cavs' coaches. Thompson had 12 points and five rebounds against the Raptors on Monday.

"Everybody understands, from the players to the coaches, we have to earn that respect back. The fans are probably a little upset with billionaires and millionaires fighting. That's something we have to do a better job with not only on the court but off the court in the community. We know it's going to take some time. We'll be putting a better product on the floor." -- Cavs coach Byron Scott on winning back the fans.
