Late-game scoring a problem
It's tough to win in overtime when there is no go-to guy to go to.
The Magic lost in overtime Friday night for the second time this week, struggling to score down the stretch. On Monday, they scored just eight points in the overtime loss to the Clippers. On Friday, they scored just nine, losing to the Hawks, 89-87.
"I don't know what to say. We just didn't execute," said point guard Jameer Nelson, who missed all three of his shots in overtime.
Hedo Turkoglu was expected to be their closer, but he has been missing in action for the last two weeks. Turkoglu committed two turnovers in Friday's overtime loss.
Although center Dwight Howard is the dominant player, his inability to make free throws makes him a liability with the ball. Jason Richardson and Ryan Anderson are mostly just three-point shooters.
The Magic return to action Saturday night in Milwaukee, still struggling with inconsistency. The overtime losses were sandwiched around a dominating win over Miami.
Anderson had 21 points. Howard had 18 points and 18 rebounds. It was Howard's put-back of a Jameer Nelson miss with 1.3 seconds remaining that sent the game into overtime.
