Webber hopes for Kings future in Sacramento

  •

--Former Kings All-Star Chris Webber was part of the TNT broadcast crew for Thursday's home game against Oklahoma City.

Webber signed autographs, gladly took photos and chatted with fans young and old. He answered questions from frantic fans concerned about the Kings' long-term status in Sacramento.

"Sacramento can't lose the Kings," Webber said. "It'd be a terrible thing. Sacramento and the NBA fit. I saw it first-hand, but it really scares me."

Webber was the focal point to the Kings' great Sacramento era. He was initially furious when traded from Washington to Sacramento for Mitch Richmond in 1998, reporting to camp out of shape and out of sorts. Before long, with Vlade Divac also a captain, Webber settled into his new setting, became a leader, an All-Star and keyed a team that 10 seasons ago went to Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals against the eventual champion Lakers.

"Best days of my career, right here," Webber said.

--Kings rookie guard Isaiah Thomas has been playing with a small chip fracture on the third knuckle of his shooting hand, suffered Monday at New Orleans.

Thomas said he can tolerate the pain and has to ice regularly to keep the swelling down.

"I know he's sore, and he's got a little better understanding of receiving a pass now as opposed to the first night he played with his hand so swollen," Kings coach Keith Smart said.

Thomas has been an energizer off the bench, playing the bulk of closing minutes in six of the past seven games.

On Thursday against Oklahoma City, Thomas played 15 minutes and had seven points.
