New rotation not good for Warrick, Brown

  •

--The Suns have now locked themselves into a rotation they think gives them the best chance to win, and Hakim Warrick and Shannon Brown are on the outside looking in when it comes to playing time.

Neither Robin Lopez nor Sebastian Telfair scored against the Kings on Saturday, although Telfair had four assists in his seven-minute stint. But with Michael Redd getting steady time on the wing and Ronnie Price getting the minutes Brown might have received, Brown appears to be missing the chance to show other teams that he's a worthwhile free-agent pickup this summer.

--Grant Hill had only seven points and five rebounds, but his 33 minutes were well-spent chasing Sacramento's leading scorer, Tyreke Evans, all over the capital of California.

Evans had averaged 21.7 points in the previous seven games but he made only 1-of-9 shots against the Suns, mostly with Hill draped all over him. The Kings made only 27-of-77 shots on the night, and the 35.1 percent shooting was the second-worst by a Suns opponent this season, just behind a 29 percent shooting effort by New Orleans.

--The Suns' bench looked a lot better Saturday after managing just 15 points in Thursday's loss to the Rockets.

Led by 18 points from rookie Markieff Morris and nine from Michael Redd, the Suns received 35 points from the reserves and a big second quarter with Steve Nash in the dressing room getting stitches for a cut lip.

Without Nash, the bench players combined for 12 points in the quarter when Phoenix outscored the Kings 22-20. And when Nash returned for the third quarter, he put the game out of reach with a series of fastbreak assists.

QUOTE TO NOTE
"He can dominate a game and not have a basket. He came back in the third quarter and helped us get separation. We never let them back in the game." -- Suns coach Alvin Gentry on guard Steve Nash, who had only four points but dished out 15 assists.
