Second-chance misses were costly
--The Grizzlies shot so poorly from opening tip to final horn against the Jazz that Memphis grabbed 18 offensive rebounds and scored just 10 second-chance points. "We couldn't even score off offensive rebounds," coach Lionel Hollins lamented.
--Memphis had a two-game win streak snapped, while the Jazz won for just the second time in the last seven games. The Jazz had been allowing a league-worst 104.2 points on the road but held Memphis 16 points under that figure.
--It was throwback uniform night, with the Griz wearing the green and gold of the old Memphis TAMs of the ABA. Most of the Grizzlies hate the unis. "I like our regular jerseys better, but it is a business," Mike Conley said.
O.J. Mayo, however, liked the throwbacks. "I like wearing these (uniforms) that go back to the days of the ABA," he said. "I know style. They (his teammates) don't."
--Memphis, 2-2 on its current home stand, closes its five consecutive games at FedExForum against the Houston Rockets.
--The Jazz made 12 of 19 shots in the fourth quarter. "We didn't play until the end of the shot clock, and that team (Utah) plays until the end of the clock," Griz G Tony Allen said. "We're usually our best down the stretch, because we play with a sense of urgency. But they got to all the 50/50 balls."
--Utah scored 30 points on 19 Grizzlies' turnovers. "That's not us," Hollins said. "We couldn't get any stops. We were trying to get three straight stops down the stretch, and we couldn't do it."
QUOTE TO NOTE
"If you don't make shots, you can't win, no matter how much defense you play." -- Griz coach Lionel Hollins on his team's slow starts of late, including trailing by 12 in the first quarter against the Jazz on Sunday.
