In an interview with the Orlando Sentinel, embattled Magic coach Stan Van Gundy says he wants to return as the club's coach for 2012-13.

"I don't have a scenario in my head where I wouldn't," said Van Gundy, whose contract runs through next season, when asked if he would like to return. "They're going to have to make decisions. But I'm a basketball coach and I know this: I don't want to go anywhere else. I mean, I love Orlando, and this is where I want to be. And I want to coach."

In the past few days, Van Gundy's future in Orlando has been a hot topic of conversation around the league -- given the mostly strained relationship he has with superstar center Dwight Howard, who had demanded a trade but waived his early-termination option on March 15. Howard is under contract through 2012-13.

The sometimes bizarre situation took another odd turn Thursday when Van Gundy told reporters he knew that Howard wanted him out as coach. When asked about his role in Van Gundy's future, Howard denied that he wants the coach fired.

Howard, Van Gundy and General Manager Otis Smith met Thursday to talk about how they would move forward for the rest of the season, the Sentinel reported.
