The Nuggets suffered two losses Wednesday.
They learned before the game against the Los Angeles Clippers that forward Wilson Chandler will need to have surgery on his injured left hip and will be out for the season. Then they lost 104-98 at home to the Clippers.
Chandler had been trying to play through pain. But he couldn't do it anymore, and his surgery will be for a labral tear in his left hip.
Chandler had missed seven games before returning last Sunday against Houston. But he struggled in seven scoreless minutes, and that led to a decision being made to shut him down.
At least Denver's playoff hopes are still in better shape. The Nuggets (34-28) dropped from the No. 6 to the No. 7 spot in the Western Conference. But, with eight teams making the playoffs, they're two games ahead of Houston and Phoenix, which are tied at No. 9 with 32-30 records, and they hold tiebreakers over both teams.
The Nuggets have four games remaining. They next play Saturday at Phoenix.
