Defense spurs win over Warriors

When the Hornets are at their best, they're holding the opponent to fewer than 90 points and finding a way to win at the end.

They were at their best at Golden State on Tuesday and the result was an 83-81 victory.

"Defensively I thought we were outstanding tonight," coach Monty Williams said. "We played the right way."

The Hornets appeared headed to overtime or perhaps a loss until Greivis Vasquez blocked a shot by Charles Jenkins, controlled the ball and passed it to Marco Belinelli, whose layup turned into a winning basket thanks to a goaltending call on Chris Wright with 0.7 seconds remaining.

"It's been a long, short year," Williams said. "It's certainly cool to see our team playing this way. They play hard no matter who we put on the floor."

The Hornets bounced back impressively from a 107-98 loss at the Clippers on Sunday in which they squandered a 10-point lead after three quarters by being outscored 33-14 in the fourth.

The Hornets (21-44) conclude the season at Houston on Thursday.
