--F Paul Pierce took over for the Celtics on Tuesday. With Rajon Rondo out, the Hawks knew Pierce would be more aggressive offensively, yet they weren't able to stop him. Pierce scored on a fast break just five seconds into the game and produced the Celtics' first nine points. He finished with 36 points and 14 rebounds.
"I felt I had to do everything," he said. "I mean, with Rondo being out, a lot of responsibility falls on me with the playmaking, scoring, rebounding. But that's all part of it."
--G Keyon Dooling hit a 3-pointer with 6:35 left in the third quarter Tuesday. The Celtics were 0 for 19 on treys prior to that. They were 0 for 11 in Game 1 and 3 for 14 Tuesday. Dooling made 2 of 3 in Game 2.
--C Kevin Garnett began Game 2 slowly, staying outside too much, but he went inside when it mattered. Garnett finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds. He had six points in the last quarter as the Celts outscored Atlanta 26-14.
--G Ray Allen (right ankle) is day to day.
--F Chris Wilcox (aortic abnormality) had surgery on March 29. He will miss the rest of the season.
--F Jeff Green (aortic aneurysm) underwent heart surgery on Jan. 9 and is out for the season.
