MOST VALUABLE PLAYER
Gerald Henderson played with a fire and passion throughout the last two weeks, when it would have been easy to go through the motions. Henderson took it personally that he wanted no part of that record as the worst NBA team, by winning percentage.
MOST DISAPPOINTING PLAYER
Tyrus Thomas came in way underweight for a power forward and way underachieved. The remaining three seasons and $26 million on his contract creates a real dilemma. Would the Bobcats consider using amnesty on Thomas?
They're among the worst in the league both offensively and defensively. They don't have a chance until they stop giving up so many points at the rim. But scoring is just about as big a problem.
FREE AGENT FOCUS
Augustin and White figure to get qualifying offers restricting their free agency (Augustin definitely, White probably). Derrick Brown, Eduardo Najera, Cory Higgins and Jamario Moon could all be free agents. Of those, Brown figures to get a qualifying offer and the Bobcats hold a team option for next season on Moon.
--F Corey Maggette seems a candidate for the amnesty clause, since eliminating his final season would knock about $12 million off the Bobcats' salary cap. However, coach Paul Silas sees Maggette as the one veteran on the roster who's suited to mentoring young players.
--G Gerald Henderson lobbied for the Bobcats to bring back Silas, whose contract expires. Henderson thrived under Silas' encouraging approach after struggling to satisfy Silas' predecessor, Larry Brown.
--G D.J. Augustin played the finale despite severe knee pain from on-going tendinitis. Silas planned to play him just a few minutes against the Knicks but Augustin said if he was playing at all, then he was playing the whole game. He ended up playing 31 minutes.
--F Corey Maggette (Achilles tendon strain) should be fine for training camp. He'll also need some minor knee surgery this offseason to clean up loose particles.
--G D.J. Augustin (right knee tendinitis) has one of the injuries that only really heals with time off. He'll get it now.
