--Nuggets coach George Karl's public complaints about uncalled three-second violations on defense committed by Andrew Bynum in the Lakers' Game 1 victory led Lakers coach Mike Brown to say: "Coach Karl is just doing his job." Brown said he didn't know if working the referees really worked much, but he said he does believe refs read the newspapers. No three-second defensive violations went into the books against the Lakers in Game 2, though.
--The Lakers' minor-league affiliate, the Los Angeles D-Fenders, dominated the NBA Development League's season but faltered when it mattered most. The D-Fenders won Game 1 at Austin to lead the best-of-three championship series, but they came home and lost two.
