Matthews wants to play in summer league

--G Wesley Matthews, who had a solid third NBA season -- the last two with Portland -- said he would like to participate with the Portland entry in the Las Vegas Summer League.

"The summertime is when we can be selfish," he said. "I challenge everybody to work as hard as I do this summer. If we all do that, we'll have a (heck) of a team next year when we get back together.

"I'm going to try to play in summer league with these guys. I'm going to play basketball, anyway, so why not be with the team, with the draft picks, and work on some things?"

--F Nicolas Batum, a restricted free agent, sounded ambivalent when asked if he thinks he'll be back with Portland.

"I don't know," he said. "Maybe. We'll see what happens on July 1. (The Blazers) can match any offer for me, anyway. I've been here four years now, but I'm going to see what is the best situation for me. If I don't find a better situation somewhere else, then I'll stay."

"That's something they're going to have to sit down and figure out -- look at the identity of this team and what we could use going forward. We have a lot of salary-cap room now, and two good draft picks coming up. Things are going to look totally different next year." -- LaMarcus Aldridge, on what the Blazers need to do to improve during the offseason.
