Quick turnaround for Eastern finals doesn't bother Celtics

CBSSports.com wire reports

The Boston Celtics are headed to the Eastern Conference Finals, but they won't have a lot of time to think about it.

The Celts earned the date with Miami when Rajon Rondo scored 11 points in the last four minutes to pull his team away from Philadelphia 85-75 in Game 7 on Saturday night.

Less than 48 hours after that final buzzer, they will face the Heat on Monday night.

"It's a tough turnaround, but we're a no-excuse team," coach Doc Rivers said. "We'll be ready on Monday.

"The way we look at it with this team is [Sunday] is off, most of Monday's off and then we play. We just don't have the bodies, don't have the legs to do anything else. But I love where we're at. I told them after the game this is exactly where we thought we would be -- and we're going to Miami."

Paul Pierce is ready for it, and he even found a way to make it look like a positive.

"You know, it's a quick turnaround, but I kind of like it that way," he said. "It keeps us in a rhythm. It keeps us playing. We're an older team, so we don't want to sit around for too long.

"It is what it is. We're up for the challenge. We know how tough it is to win in this league, especially in the playoffs. We know how hard it is to win a championship."

The Celtics are not expecting an easy time. And they know that even if such a path presents itself, they probably won't take it.

They struggled against the 76ers in Game 7, turning the ball over 15 times and allowing Philly 17 second-chance points on 13 offensive rebounds.

"It's who we are at times," Rivers said. "I've said it all year. We don't have a big margin of error. We play like that, and at times when we struggle teams make runs on us. And it's hard, but that's who we are.

"I don't think we can win games by 20-25. With this group right now with what we have going on, it's hard to do. Our mindset is that we have to grind games."
