--G Darren Collison and F/G Dahntay Jones were sent to Dallas from Indiana in exchange for C Ian Mahinmi, a free agent who agreed to a sign-and-trade move. Collison and Jones both have one year left on their contracts.

Collison, 24, averaged 10.3 points and 4.8 assists for the Pacers last season. He figures to take over as Dallas' point guard with Jason Kidd moving to New York.

Jones, 31, averaged 16.2 minutes per game last year for the Pacers, and he averaged 5.3 points and 1.8 rebounds.

Mahinmi, 25, will get a four-year, $16 million deal. He averaged 5.8 points and 4.7 rebounds for the Mavericks last season.

--C Chris Kaman agreed to a one-year, $8 million deal with the Mavericks. Kaman, acquired by the Hornets in the Chris Paul trade, averaged 13.1 points, 7.7 rebounds, a team-high 1.6 blocks and 2.1 assists in 29.2 minutes per game last season. He played in only 47 games due to injuries, starting 33.

--G Dominique Jones has been buried on the bench in each of his first two seasons, but now he might have an opportunity to earn a rotation spot considering the overhaul of the Mavs' roster. His first step is to show he has progressed in his transition from shooting guard to point guard.

--F Dirk Nowitzki hosted a charity baseball game in North Texas prior to the start of the free agency period, then headed to England to catch a bit of Wimbledon before trekking through Europe. He was out of reach during the early portions of free agency, but G Jason Kidd said he connected with Nowitzki and received the 7-footer's blessing to sign with the Knicks.

--G Vince Carter had his contract guaranteed in full on the eve of the opening of the free agent period. The 35-year-old becomes the elder statesman of what is now a young man's backcourt with Rodrigue Beaubois, Dominique Jones and Darren Collision.

--G Jared Cunningham (6-5, Oregon State, first round, No. 24) was chosen for his athleticism and tenacious defense. He is similar to Rodrigue Beaubois and Dominique Jones and will battle both for playing time. He could become even more crucial if the Mavs strike out on free agent Deron Williams.

--C Bernard James (6-10, Florida State, second round, No. 33) is an excellent shot blocker and defender in the paint, two areas the Mavs need immediate help.

--F Jae Crowder (6-7, Marquette, second round, No. 34) is a tough, hard-nosed defender with a good motor. He's undersized but is strong and likes to do the dirty work.

--F Shawn Marion (minor shoulder surgery in May 2012) had fatty tissue removed from a growth on his shoulder. It was an outpatient procedure, and he should be fine well before training camp.
