Jazz bump O'Connor into new role

The Sports Xchange

--GM Kevin O'Connor has been promoted to a top executive position within the Jazz organization, according to multiple media outlets.

Nothing official has been announced, but the Salt Lake Tribune reported that O'Connor plans to give the general manager job to someone else, although that person has yet to be determined.

O'Connor has been in charge of the Jazz's basketball operations since 1999.

San Antonio Spurs assistant GM Dennis Lindsey is a candidate for Utah GM job, according to Yahoo! Sports.

--G Randy Foye called it a "no-brainer" to pick the Jazz over other suitors, including the Knicks, Mavericks, Rockets and Bulls.

"When I sat to down with my wife and some of my family members," Foye said, "I understood that this was the perfect place for me to take my career as a basketball player to the next level."

Foye signed only a one-year contract with Utah, which used part of its mid-level exception. But Jazz general manager Kevin O'Connor said both parties are hoping for a "long-term" relationship.

--G Mo Williams didn't take long to congratulate Foye on remaining his teammate. Less than two hours after Foye agreed to terms with Utah, Williams sent a text message to a guy he's played alongside for the last year and a half.

The text was a simple one, according to Foye. "(Williams) just said, 'Welcome.'"

Foye was also Jazz center Al Jefferson's teammate for two years in Minnesota at the beginning of his career.

"We finally got somebody not named Williams."--Jazz general manager Kevin O'Connor after signing guard Randy Foye. The Jazz traded for Mo Williams and Marvin Williams earlier in the summer.
