Once a year we invite some of the brightest, sharpest minds in the Fantasy industry to build IDP rosters for a league we play out and crown a champion in. This isn't for the faint of heart, as we pull off a 28-round draft with some challenging starting requirements.
Every owner must start one quarterback, two running backs, three wide receivers, one tight end, one flex and one kicker. Every owner must also start two defensive linemen, three linebackers, three defensive backs and one flex of the three positions. No wonder why we had to go 28 rounds. Oh, and it's a PPR league too.
Our recommended draft strategy for IDP formats, even as deep as this one, is to wait for defensive players. Think about it: There are 11 defenders on the field at a time and only three positions to consider. With 12 teams looking for just a few IDPs, the supply of talent outweighs the need for starters. That's why you shouldn't find defensive players taken for the first several rounds of a draft.
That's a win-win for people looking for a 12-team PPR draft to check out. Our first defensive player wasn't selected until Round 9, so the first eight rounds can easily be considered for non-IDP 12-team PPR owners.
