The whole "which conference is better" question always seems a little unnecessary. But then, I think conferences in general are unnecessary. How great would the playoffs be if conferences were eliminated?

You'd see more interesting matchups, and it would reward teams that actually have earned it, especially when there's a conference disparity in quality.
Like there is in the Power Rankings.
Four of the top five teams in Power Rankings are in the West, with the Clippers and Thunder grappling for the top spot on long winning streaks. You can make a decent argument for OKC, the Clippers, Spurs and Grizzlies all as legitimate Western Conference contenders right now.
And yet when the playoffs come around, they're going to be racked up against one another and tough teams, while the Heat and Knicks wind up with much weaker competition.
Oh, well, even if the playoffs aren't fair, Power Rankings are. And with that, here are this week's rankings.
