Part-owner of Suns, Diamondbacks dead at 67

PHOENIX -- Eddie Lynch, a partner in the ownership of the Phoenix Suns and Arizona Diamondbacks, died Monday of complications following a stroke. He was 67.

Lynch, a prominent businessman, was a graduate of the University of Arizona where his donations led to the recently completed Eddie Lynch Athletic Pavilion Plaza.

The 36,000-square-foot building, adjacent to the McKale Center in Tucson, includes tributes to the university's heritage as well as strength, conditioning and medical treatment facilities for the school's athletic program.

"Our prayers and wishes are certainly with Eddie's family," said Jerry Colangelo, the Suns chief executive officer and managing general partner of the Suns and Diamondbacks. "He was a dear friend of our organization and I will miss him."

Lynch was a longtime partner in the Suns ownership group and was a member of the investment group at the inception of the Diamondbacks.

He was the founding general partner of Westcor Partners, a Phoenix-based development company that owned and operated several major shopping malls.

Before he founded Westcor, Lynch was vice president of marketing of Guaranty Bank of Arizona. He also served as president and owner of Western Outdoor Advertising.

Lynch received the University of Arizona's Distinguished Citizen Award in 1992 and was director of the University Foundation and the school's Arthritis Center.

He served on many local boards, including the Arizona Club, Phoenix Thunderbirds, Phoenix Chamber of Commerce and the 1996 Super Bowl Committee.

Lynch is survived by his wife Diana and two daughters, Allison Lynch and Katherine Lynch.
