DENVER -- Denver Nuggets guard
Voshon Lenard will have surgery Monday after tearing his Achilles'
tendon in a season-opening loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Lenard injured his left leg late in the third quarter Tuesday night when
he slipped while running back on defense. A timeline for his return will
be set after surgery, though he's expected to miss the rest of the
season.
"It's a tough one, obviously," Nuggets general manager Kiki Vandeweghe
said Wednesday. "But Voshon's tough and you try to be optimistic about
it."
The Nuggets will likely have a tough time replacing Lenard. He was the
team's only legitimate outside threat, a streaky shooter who could score
points in bunches.
Lenard averaged 14.2 points and shot 36 percent from 3-point range last
season. He also won the 3-point shooting contest at the NBA All-Star
Game.
DerMarr Johnson, who signed with the Nuggets two weeks before
the season, was listed as the probable starter for Denver's home opener
against Minnesota on Thursday night.
