Foot injury will keep Iverson out at least a game

PHILADELPHIA -- Allen Iverson's injured right foot will keep him out of the Philadelphia 76ers' lineup for at least one game and possibly three more.

An MRI on Iverson's ankle and foot Monday revealed the foot was bruised and sprained sprain. He won't play against the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday night and is doubtful for the Sixers' upcoming three-game road trip.

Iverson, the NBA's second-leading scorer with an average of 33.2 points per game, was hurt near the end of the first half of Philadelphia's victory at Memphis on Sunday. He didn't return after being carried to the locker room and left the arena wearing a walking boot.

On the play, Iverson drove to the right and took a shot from the right baseline as the shot clock expired. Iverson said he was injured when he landed on some people sitting along the baseline after falling out of bounds.

The Sixers are in a crucial stretch as they try to make a push for the playoffs. Philadelphia (31-31) is seventh in the Eastern Conference and trailed Atlantic Division-leading New Jersey by 2½ games going into Monday's games.

Without Iverson, the Sixers' chances of climbing in the standings are dim. A seven-time All-Star, four-time scoring champion and former league MVP, Iverson is averaging 7.4 assists and is shooting 45.2 percent in his 10th season in Philadelphia. The Sixers were 2-2 in the four games he missed this year.

Earlier this month, Iverson was snubbed for the U.S. national team. He then went out and reached 40 points and 10 assists in consecutive games for the first time in his career.
