Dozens injured after riot breaks out at Serbian hoops final
BELGRADE, Serbia -- Dozens of people were injured, some seriously, in a clash between fans and police at a basketball final in Belgrade on Thursday.
The match between Red Star and Partizan, both from Belgrade, was interrupted shortly after the riot started.
The police used tear gas to dispel the crowd, and was filmed on the state television clubbing fans with batons. The chaos caused a hall fence to collapse, after which the fans fell on to the court.
The number of injured was not immediately known. The Beta news agency said at least two fans were seriously injured.
The match was one of three in the finals series in the local league.
