Strong play in Vegas leads Pistons to sign Blalock

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- The Detroit Pistons signed second-round draft pick Will Blalock to a multiyear contract on Monday.

"We are pleased," said Joe Dumars, the Pistons' president of basketball operations. "Will had a good showing at the Vegas summer league and we are excited about his potential and ability to give us depth at the point guard position."

The Pistons selected Blalock out of Iowa State with the 60th and final pick of last month's NBA Draft.

Blalock averaged 15.4 points and 6.1 assists in 30 games for the Cyclones last season.

In five games at the Las Vegas summer league last week, Blalock averaged 5.2 points, 1.8 rebounds and 3.4 assists in 21.8 minutes per game.
