Iverson's mom to become owner of ABA team in Richmond, Va.

RICHMOND, Va. -- The Answer's mom has her own team.

Allen Iverson's mother, Ann, will be the majority owner on a new American Basketball Association franchise that will play in Richmond next season.

Iverson, the Philadelphia 76ers star and 2001 NBA MVP, starred at Bethel High School in Hampton.

The new ABA team, known as the Warriors, will be coached by former Virginia Tech player Michael Davis, who will also serve as director of player personnel.

ABA teams play a 36-game schedule.

A franchise costs $20,000, but needs about $400,000 for operating costs, minority owner and general manager George Christopher said. Each team has a roster of 10-12 players and a $160,000 salary cap.

Richmond had an ABA team last season, the Generals, but it didn't succeed.

"We're starting from scratch," Christopher said in a telephone interview.

The league has seen many teams come and go since it started in 2000.

"Richmond is a great basketball city and will be a great ABA city. We are pleased to be back there," ABA CEO Joe Newman said in a release from the league. "We have a tremendous ownership group, very knowledgeable and experienced and we know that they will do a terrific job."
