Mavericks F Lamar Odom has gotten off to a slow start this season but coach Rick Carlisle told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram on Friday the he has seen improvement from the 32-year-old. “He's come a long way there and our guys, I think, have come a long ways in terms of knowing how he plays within what we do," Carlisle said. "He's gotten gradually better and he's a key guy for us.'' Odom, who was acquired from the Lakers in the offseason, also sees improvement in himself. “I'm learning and I'm getting better as time passes,'' Odom said. “I'll get there - hopefully sooner.''

Dallas guard Jason Terry managed 33 minutes of court time on Friday night despite dealing with a hip problem. He received treatment on Thursday and came out and scored 16 points off the bench for the Mavericks. He threw up 21 shots, making seven of them -- two of them coming from beyond the 3-point arc. Terry added two steals, three boards and five assists for the Mavs. Dallas would go on to beat Minnesota, 104-97.

Dallas guard Jason Kidd returned to the court on Friday after missing six games with a calf injury. Kidd scored eight points and dished out 10 assists in his 27 minutes of action. He shot 2 for 4 from the field -- going 2 for 3 from downtown -- and knocked down both his foul shots. Kidd would grab five boards, block a shot and make two steals in the 104-97 win over Minnesota. "He's a big part of our heart and soul. When we're without him, we can win some games but we're not the same team," Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle said. It wasn't all good though as Kidd committed eight of Dallas' 18 turnovers.
