76ers' Nerlens Noel: To miss 3-to-5 weeks
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Noel (groin) will undergo surgery Monday to repair an inflamed plica above his left knee and is expected to miss 3-to-5 weeks, the Philadelphia Inquirer's Keith Pompey reports.

The procedure, which takes only 10 minutes, is minor in nature, but it will still force Noel to miss the better part of the first month of the regular season. In his absence, Joel Embiid should have an even clearer path to minutes up front, though the big man is expected to face an initial minutes restriction of around 20-to-24 minutes. Jahlil Okafor, who made his preseason debut Friday, should also see an uptick in minutes, assuming he's not limited by the knee issue that plagued him through much of camp.

76ers' Jahlil Okafor: Plays eight minutes in preseason debut
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Okafor (knee) posted four points (1-1 FG, 2-4 FT), one rebound, one assist and one block across eight minutes in Friday's 113-110 preseason win over the Heat.

Making his preseason debut Friday after he was limited throughout most of training camp while rehabbing a surgically-repaired right knee, Okafor looked good during his brief spell on the court. With Okafor coming out of the preseason finale with no issues, he looks like a safe bet to play in Wednesday's regular-season opener against the Thunder, but expect him to remain under a minutes restriction of some sort. Even once he's fully healthy, Okafor could have a tough time regularly touching the 30.0 minutes he averaged as a rookie, as he now finds himself as the 76ers' first big man off the bench behind frontcourt starters Joel Embiid and Dario Saric.

76ers' Ben Simmons: Has sutures removed from right foot
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Simmons (foot) recently had sutures removed and is showing progress in his day-to-day rehabilitation.

Simmons underwent surgery back on Oct. 4 to address an acute Jones fracture in the fifth metatarsal of his right foot and remains without a definitive return timetable. There's a real possibility that Simmons won't play at all as a rookie given the importance of his long-term health to the franchise, and if he does return, it likely won't be until the calendar flips to 2017.

76ers' Jerami Grant: Scores 17 points in 24 minutes Friday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Grant accumulated 17 points (4-9 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 9-12 FT), four rebounds, two steals and one assist across 24 minutes in Friday's 113-110 preseason loss to the Heat.

The 76ers planned to use Grant primarily as a small forward entering training camp, but injuries to Ben Simmons (foot), Jahlil Okafor (knee) and Nerlens Noel (groin) prompted coach Brett Brown to frequently deploy Grant as a frontcourt option. Though Okafor was able to get on the court for the preseason finale, the longer-term absences of Simmons and Okafor will afford Grant a good amount of run at either forward spot once the regular season opens Tuesday against the Thunder. Grant isn't typically an efficient shooter, but has been able to get to the line at a high rate in the preseason and has hit 34-for-45 (75.5%) of his attempts, which has allowed him to finish as a double-digit scorer in six of seven games. That offensive production combined with his sound contributions in the steals and blocks columns could make Grant an intriguing waiver-wire pickup in deeper leagues.

76ers' Joel Embiid: Posts 18 points, nine rebounds Friday
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Embiid scored 18 points (8-16 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-2 FT) and nine rebounds in 18 minutes before fouling out of Friday's 113-110 preseason win over the Heat.

While Embiid faced playing-time restrictions all preseason and didn't log more than 20 minutes in any contest, both the 76ers and fantasy owners alike have to be ecstatic with the production he provided. The former No. 3 overall pick was a focal points on both ends of the floor whenever he was on the court, and ultimately finished the exhibition schedule with five straight games of double-digit points. Embiid wasn't without his faults, however, as he racked up fouls and turnovers at high rates, but his production as a scorer, rebounder and shot blocker largely offset those shortcomings. He's expected to be limited to 20-to-24 minutes in Wednesday's regular-season opener against the Thunder, but Embiid could see his restrictions gradually diminish as the season unfolds.
