PLAYER NOTES

--F LeBron James was selected as the Eastern Conference Player of the Month for January. He averaged 30.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 8.5 assists in 15 games. He shot 50.3 percent from the field in leading the Cavs to an NBA-best 12-3 record. James won the award for the 14th time in his career and for the third consecutive month this season. He actually has won the award five consecutive months, since he also won the last two of the 2008-09 season.

--F Jawad Williams' left thumb isn't his only malady. He's been suffering from back spasms. He said he has some soft tissue damage to his thumb. He said it doesn't affect his shooting.

--F LeBron James on being de facto point guard recently: "I'm a whatever. I'll do whatever the team needs to get a win." He's averaged 10 assists since G Mo Williams was hurt.

MEDICAL WATCH

--G Delonte West (broken left ring finger) was fitted for a splint. He's out indefinitely.

--G Mo Williams (sprained left shoulder) will be sidelined 4-to-6 weeks.

--F Leon Powe (torn ACL in left knee, micro-fracture surgery left knee) has returned to the practice court. He's expected to return in mid-February.
