PLAYER NOTES

--If F Jawad Williams accepts the Cavs' qualifying offer, as expected, that will give them 14 players on the roster. His qualifying offer is worth $1,029,389. The veteran's minimum is worth $854,389. If he returns, Williams could compete for a starting job at small forward. The final spot on the roster could be filled by training camp invitee Samardo Samuels, a 6-8, 260-pound forward/center from Louisville.

--The Raptors kept waiting for F Joey Graham to get his motor running. He showed signs of being a high-octane performer, but more often than not, his game sputtered. Graham, 28, signed a two-year, $2.1 million deal with the Cavaliers on July 30. The 6-foot-7, 225-pound small forward is entering his sixth season in the NBA. Toronto took a chance on the Oklahoma State product with the 16th pick in the 2005 NBA Draft. He never panned out with the Raptors.

"I would have liked to see a greater passion for the game and wanting to be good," said Raptors consultant Wayne Embry, the Cavs' general manager from 1986 to 1999. "He can do anything he wants to do. He's physically gifted."

Graham will compete for playing time at small forward with Jamario Moon and possibly Antawn Jamison and Jawad Williams. Jamison is a power forward by trade, but J.J. Hickson is expected to get the bulk of the minutes at that position. Jamison could get some minutes at small forward or could come off the bench at power forward. Williams is a restricted free agent and could return to the team.

--When G Ramon Sessions caught wind of the trade to the Cavaliers, he made an obligatory call to his agent. Then he called his best friend. Ever since his rookie year in Milwaukee in 2007-08, Sessions has been tight with G Mo Williams. They'll be reunited in Cleveland this season.

"He was the second person I called other than my agent," Sessions said. "He was all for it. It's going to be fun out there. (Mo and I) are best friends and we're going to compete. Even though he was my mentor growing up, I'm not going to let him get off easy. I'm going to compete and play hard."

Cavs coach Byron Scott can do one of two things with the 6-foot-3, 190-pound Sessions: He could start him in the same backcourt with Williams, or he could be the first guard off the bench. The Cavs acquired Sessions, 7-footer Ryan Hollins and a 2013 second-round pick from the Minnesota Timberwolves on July 26 in exchange for G Delonte West (since waived) and G Sebastian Telfair.
