Grizzlies report: Roster

The Sports Xchange
Roster · Getting inside · Notes, quotes

--F Zach Randolph was smothered early by Dallas double-teams. But when his teammates began hitting some shots, he suddenly had room to make plays and he made plenty of them, finishing with 27 points (10-of-13 field goals), nine rebounds and four steals.

No play, was bigger though, than Randolph's game-winning jumper over the outstretched arms of Mavs' 7-foot center Brendan Haywood, who had six blocked shots. Haywood fell to his knees in disbelief when Randolph's shot swished clean as a whistle.

"I got a pretty good look," Randolph said of his game-winner. "I got a chance to put the ball on the floor and get my rhythm. I got to see the rim. Coach (Lionel Hollins) drew a play for me to come to the corner, get the ball and I hit the shot.

"Every game for us now is like a playoff game. We've got to come out with our heads on straight, focus and try to win each game."

--G Mike Conley was the marathon man. After going scoreless in the first half against the Mavs, missing all four field goal attempts, he played every minute of the second half and finished with 17 points and 10 assists.

"I was going to do whatever it took to win that game," Conley said. "I didn't feel tired... until it was over."

--Reserves O.J. Mayo and Shane Battier started the second half, and they were instrumental keying the third quarter defense that erased the Grizzlies' 18-point deficit.

The duo also combined for 22 points (11 each), 12 rebounds (11 by Battier for a double-double) and eight assists (seven by Mayo).

"It was a huge adjustment, I think he (Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins) was trying to switch it up a bit," Conley said. "The group we had out there the first half was kind of stagnant, and Shane and O.J. both stepped up big.

"O.J. was a big playmaker in the third quarter and got me open a couple of times. Shane made a huge play there at the end with the offensive rebound and a put-back."

--F Rudy Gay (partially dislocated left shoulder) could be back by mid-March.

--G Xavier Henry (sore right knee) may need surgery and would miss the rest of the season.
