DRAFT PICK

Marreese Speights, F, 6-10, Florida -- Could compete for backup minutes at power forward; needs to get stronger and improve conditioning.

BIGGEST NEEDS
The Sixers landed the power forward they craved in unrestricted free agent Elton Brand, thanks to a five-year, $83 million contract. That took care of their weakest position with Brand, a 20- and 10-career guy. The team added a backup point guard in Royal Ivey and a decent outside shooter in Kareem Rush.

FREE AGENT FOCUS
G Kevin Ollie, F Shavlik Randolph and F/C Herbert Hill are unrestricted free agents who won't be back. Hill signed a contract to play for Le Mans in France. C Calvin Booth was traded to the Timberwolves to clear cap space after picking up a $1.14 million player option. G Lou Williams signed a five-year deal worth roughly $25 million to remain a Sixer. F/G Andre Iguodala, who is a restricted free agent, wants a five- or six-year deal worth at least $70 million. Iguodala turned down a five-year, $57 million extension last October.

PLAYER NOTES

--G Andre Miller has exchanged text messages with team president Ed Stefanski. Stefanski said Miller was happy with the team's off-season moves and working out in preparation for 2008-09. Stefanski said he and Miller haven't discussed extending Miller's contract, which expires next summer, but he hopes to broach the topic with Miller before the start of training camp.

Representatives for F/G Andre Iguodala and the Sixers continue to negotiate toward a long-term contract.

"Negotiations are progressing," said team president Ed Stefanski. "That's all I'll say about it. It takes time. Things just don't happen overnight."

--Should rookie F Marreese Speights continue to wear No. 16, as he did in the summer league, he'll become the first Sixer since Bailey Howell (1970-71) to do so.

TMac: Can someone tell me why everyone wants TMac. He is injury plagued and hasn't really been that effective in a couple years. We have Thad Young and Iguodala who are both younger and right now with Tracy McGrady's injuries they are both more effective. So if you guys want to win then why would you trade Iguodala for McGrady.&nbs ...(more)

I thought Jeff Teague, Eric Maynor or Ty Lawson was a better fit. All 3 can set the table for other players. Holiday isn't that type of PG. He will be a better defender because of his si ...(more)

While half the league seems to be getting better, including the World Champion Lakers, the Sixers watch deal after deal being made. Now, don't anybody give me any crap about being cap restricted. Hey Ed.... get your butt in gear. There has to be a point guard out there. In fact, I have one. It's D. J. Augustin from Charlotte. If they w ...(more)

The first move is to sign and trade Andre Miller to Portland for Steve Blake and Travis Outlaw.  You sign Miller for 3 years 10 mil per and that equals Outlaw and Blake whose contr ...(more)

There are so many problems with this team that i dont know where to begin. We have no pg, no shooters, no center, no bench it will be very tough to make this team into a contendor.

Heres wahat i think...

1) First we address the PG situation. i think they will moat likely draft a pg (lawson, flynn, Teague, Calathes, maynor). Personally i would love to see them go out and get K

I watched the draft hoping to see the Philly players all get selected. My favorite Dionte Christmas was not taken and part of me was happy because it gives the 76ers an oppurtunity to sign him. I thought perhaps we would acguire a second rounder so that we could draft him, but I think this is a perfect oppurtunity to get him. I feel like we ...(more)

OR

Sammy and 17 for Vlad Rad, Nazr and 12.

Philly is also trying to get the 2nd round pick {40# or 54#} and the 17-12 swap in the deal.

Jrue Holiday. Holiday is PG out of UCLA who was projected as a lottery pick in most drafts and fell to Philly at 17. He's 6'4 180 and can play both guard positions but according to most analysis he is a true PG. All three PGs who the Sixers seemed to be interested in were available but there is no way you can pass on a prospect like Holiday. He is 19 years old and is something in the mold of ...(more)

Tomorrow the Sixers will make a major announcement at 2:00pm at the Comcast Center regarding the Sixers brand imaging. All signs point to the Sixers changing back to the logo and uniform colors of the 1980's. During Eddie Jordans introduction him and his children were given a red uniform with blue letters reading SIXERS across the front. Another video on NBA.com previews the ...(more)

I gotta admit, at first I was relieved that the Sixers dropped to the 7th spot.  I have always been a Sixers fan, but spent the last 7 years in Orlando and became a Magic fan, so I did not want them to meet in the playoffs.  Then I realized we have to play the Celtics no ...(more)
