DRAFT PICK

Marreese Speights, F, 6-10, Florida -- Could compete for backup minutes at power forward; needs to get stronger and improve conditioning.

BIGGEST NEEDS
The Sixers landed the power forward they craved in unrestricted free agent Elton Brand, thanks to a five-year, $83 million contract. That took care of their weakest position with Brand, a 20- and 10-career guy. The team added a backup point guard in Royal Ivey and a decent outside shooter in Kareem Rush.

FREE AGENT FOCUS
G Kevin Ollie, F Shavlik Randolph and F/C Herbert Hill are unrestricted free agents who won't be back. Hill signed a contract to play for Le Mans in France. C Calvin Booth was traded to the Timberwolves to clear cap space after picking up a $1.14 million player option. G Lou Williams signed a five-year deal worth roughly $25 million to remain a Sixer. F/G Andre Iguodala, who is a restricted free agent, wants a five- or six-year deal worth at least $70 million. Iguodala turned down a five-year, $57 million extension last October.

PLAYER NOTES

--G Andre Miller has exchanged text messages with team president Ed Stefanski. Stefanski said Miller was happy with the team's off-season moves and working out in preparation for 2008-09. Stefanski said he and Miller haven't discussed extending Miller's contract, which expires next summer, but he hopes to broach the topic with Miller before the start of training camp.

Representatives for F/G Andre Iguodala and the Sixers continue to negotiate toward a long-term contract.

"Negotiations are progressing," said team president Ed Stefanski. "That's all I'll say about it. It takes time. Things just don't happen overnight."

--Should rookie F Marreese Speights continue to wear No. 16, as he did in the summer league, he'll become the first Sixer since Bailey Howell (1970-71) to do so.

Recent article in the Harrisburg paper, were the 76ers are trying to figure out how to get fans back in the stands.
Duh...how about if the 76ers and comcast cut thier ties, and let somebody else own the team. Everybody knows
Comcast is one of Spector's finical contributors, and the terrestrial law proves it.this

(POLL) I am aware of all the reasons of why not to bring Iverson back.  I know he is known as a head case and could stunt the teams development of young players, especially Jue Holiday and he is not a long term option  I however see more reasons why it is a perfect idea for the sixers.  If Iverson were to be brought back He would become the starter and Holiday his back up. &n ...(more)

Huge sixers fan, but I honestly hope they lose ALOT this year.  I they can get a high drat pick they can be really good.  Keep losing and getting nice picks guys!  I can see this team being REALLY good in 3-4 years.  I know that sounds awful, but I think it's true.  The young guys will be much better, and they will have some nice drat picks as well.  THe big money guy ...(more)

Can someone tell me what is going on with my beloved 76ers? I'm in a area where Comcast and Directv are at war so I have yet to see the Sixers play. I've only had the chance to view their box scores and read the occassional articles online. Philly.com gives me the most in-depth information, but those writers tend to be bias towards the home ...(more)

Some of you may have seen that I mentioned a couple of college kids in one of the other threads here.  Each year I watch a fair bit of college ball, as the coverage is better down here for college ball than it is for the NBA.  I also keep an eye on players at a certain position that I think the sixers will be drafting at the following year.  I also try guestimate where we might be p ...(more)

Stephen Smith of ESPN.COM is reporting that the Sixers have reconsidered their thoughts about bringing back Former MVP Allen Iverson. Yesterday a report from Smith sayed their was no interest to bring him back , but i guess since Lou Williams is out 8 weeks and Jrue Holliday is like 17 , that they need to pursue a scorer. I would ...(more)

Ed Stefanski came to Philly with a billing that he knew what he was doing and that he knows Philadelphia.... However-

I have no idea what he is doing here.  What truly baffles me is that he chose to sign Brand in the first place, then went and drafted Speights with their top pick.  Signing Brand was a horrible move where deep down we all knew it was a long sh ...(more)

We are young, moving steadily in the right direction. What do you think? Sixers take a run a LeBron James after the season? Why not? At worst they can drive the price up for who ever does get him. It's just a thought. I mean any market he moves to will be bigger than Cleveland right?
