Spurs report: Getting inside

The San Antonio Spurs are struggling to put the pieces of their re-tooled roster together -- so losing Tony Parker in the first half of Friday's 96-84 loss at Portland didn't help matters.

Two duds on the road dropped San Antonio to 0-3 away from home and to a very un-Spurs-like 2-3 on the season. The club will be happy to learn the upcoming schedule provides plenty of home cooking.

Two days of rest brings a stretch of 12 of their next 15 games at home, including seven of their next eight. Toronto, Oklahoma City and Dallas kick off the first leg of the home stretch followed by a quick trip to Dallas.

Then Utah, Washington, Milwaukee and Golden State visit San Antonio before a one-night jaunt to Houston. A one-game trip back to Utah splits up a remaining homestand that includes Philadelphia, Boston, Denver, Sacramento and Charlotte.

The Spurs, 2-0 at home with a pair of blowout wins, scored 113 points in each victory.

On the road, they have yet to put up 100 and haven't cracked 85 in two. For a team that traditionally takes care of business on opposing floors, San Antonio would have to go 26-12 the rest of the season on the road to match last season's road record.

TRAIL BLAZERS 96, SPURS: 84: Much like the night before in Utah, the Spurs found themselves trailing early, 29-14 after one quarter, and were never really able to dig their way out. The offense continued to be stagnant most of the night with Tony Parker sitting out the second half with a sprained ankle. The Spurs shot just 38 percent, including an abysmal 4-of-21 from the beyond the three-point arc.

Needs to get with the program.  He is not  good  enough to have a starting role right now.  He is a role player and his role should be being part of the 'Popovich Factory'.  He has never proved he deserves to ever shoot the ball.  It's a priveledge to say you start for the Spurs in this Decade.  With that s ...(more)

So after only seeing the two losses of the four games the Spurs have played it's clear that there are a lot of kinks to work out.  I just have to keep reminding myself that we started off much worse last season and the games that we got blown out in early (i.e. the early game against the ...(more)

Can someone explain this strange early season schedule to me?  I don't recall (or was asleep at the wheel) how come we have two back to backs with the first five games - with four off days in between.  I all seems very odd to me.
Open at home against the Hornets, get on a plane and lose to

Thanks Bruce and Good Luck with your retirement.

You will always be part of the San Antonio family and a local hero.

Old School defensive style doesn't win lots of style points, but it is critical to a team's success.

Amazingly enough the only people who ever complain about dirty play are defensive liabilities like Amare Stoudemire.

Tenacious defenders l

Thursday night looked pretty evident that even with new faces an some youth back to backs could still be tough on our older legs an if thats the case what shape will we be in come playoff team no doubt this team is still elite of the nba. Im still confident we will be 1 or 2 seed from the west but im hoping  our schedule which has us on the road alot the 2nd half of the season isnt what wi ...(more)

Just wanted to say hello!! I live in Pittsburgh and am a die hard sports fan but we don't have an NBA squad and I have never really felt and allegiance to one. But now I am with DeJaun Blair and the San Antonio Spurs, love to see him leading the team in preseason scoring. I am sure he will start out on the bench behind McDyess and probably B ...(more)

WOW, how good did the Spurs look like night? Are bench was amazing. Blair was a beast 14 and 11. Mason, Bonner, Finley were on point. Manu was Manu. Timmy didn't play well but there was no need for it. Parker had his moments so did George Hill. McDyess looked good. I could ...(more)

The most highly anticipated Spurs preseason in recent memory is now underway.

Even though it was the infusion of talented new blood that had most Spurs fans counting the days until training camp, the return of two key players who had very different summers should also be cause for optimism.

After an injury plagued and ...(more)
