Despite reeling off a five-game win streak after a 4-6 start to the season, the Spurs aren't exactly celebrating. They know of their five recent victories, only one came against a team with a winning record.

"We really shouldn't care that much about winning five in a row," guard Manu Ginobili said. "It's always good. It helps your confidence, and of course your standings, but we still believe we've got a long way to go. We can still improve so much."

The Spurs, who finally have all of their stars back in the lineup now that Ginobili has return from a strained groin, extended their win streak Sunday with a win over the Philadelphia 76ers, a team off to a dismal start and now languishing in talk of bringing back former star Allen Iverson.

Stiffer competition is on the horizon. San Antonio has its second extended rest period of the early season and won't play again until Thursday when it plays host to Boston.

Denver comes to town on Saturday, followed by a one-game road trip to Salt Lake City. The Spurs are already 0-2 against the Jazz.

SPURS 97, 76ers 89: San Antonio limited Philadelphia to 39.3 percent shooting and 26.3 percent (5-of-19) from the three-point line. The Spurs led by nine at halftime and maintained a similar lead most of the game. Tim Duncan continued his steady play with 22 points on 8-of-14 shooting and six rebounds. Manu Ginobili had eight points, two assists, a steal and a block in his return from injury. Forward DeJuan Blair came off the bench for a double-double (11 points, 10 rebounds).

"The Purest Form of NBA Dominance"

"Is Tim Duncan good enough to be ranked with the best PF and Centers of the NBA. Historically the answer is yes. In the Modern NBA there are few who can compare. One player that has been compared to Duncan on a regular basis is

With the win over the Bucks tonight the Spurs are back to an even record......George Hill and company held the rookie Jennings to 6-21 shooting% the defense looked good at times and the Spurs beat out the Bucks on the board plus 20.... however the 17 turnovers still hurt...can't ...(more)

It looks like the Spurs have done it again...Richard Jefferson could end up being the pick-up of the year. It's amazing to me that year after year, the Spurs put together good teams that always contend for the NBA championship. Spurs fans are very lucky.

Compare this to my team, the pathetic GS

Needs to get with the program.  He is not  good  enough to have a starting role right now.  He is a role player and his role should be being part of the 'Popovich Factory'.  He has never proved he deserves to ever shoot the ball.  It's a priveledge to say you start for the Spurs in this Decade.  With that s ...(more)

Where is the defense that we used to be known for? Giving up this many points will not win us championships. Although we beat the Raptors, we gave up 120+ points! That's just unacceptable... I can only hope we gel quickly and get our defense back into championship form. Our offense was clicking tonight, which was a good sign, (even with ...(more)

So after only seeing the two losses of the four games the Spurs have played it's clear that there are a lot of kinks to work out.  I just have to keep reminding myself that we started off much worse last season and the games that we got blown out in early (i.e. the early game against the ...(more)

Can someone explain this strange early season schedule to me?  I don't recall (or was asleep at the wheel) how come we have two back to backs with the first five games - with four off days in between.  I all seems very odd to me.

Thanks Bruce and Good Luck with your retirement.

You will always be part of the San Antonio family and a local hero.

Old School defensive style doesn't win lots of style points, but it is critical to a team's success.

Amazingly enough the only people who ever complain about dirty play are defensive liabilities like Amare Stoudemire.

Tenacious defenders l

Im still confident we will be 1 or 2 seed from the west but im hoping  our schedule which has us on the road alot the 2nd half of the season isnt what wi ...(more)

Just wanted to say hello!! I live in Pittsburgh and am a die hard sports fan but we don't have an NBA squad and I have never really felt and allegiance to one. But now I am with DeJaun Blair and the San Antonio Spurs, love to see him leading the team in preseason scoring. I am sure he will start out on the bench behind McDyess and probably B ...(more)
