Wizards report: Getting inside

Getting inside · Roster · Notes, quotes

After a miserable two-game road trip that saw them lose games at Oklahoma City and San Antonio by an average of 20.5 points, the Wizards, who lauded the superiority of their new coach's defensive and offensive schemes as contrasted with their old coach's, will next face their former coach, Eddie Jordan.

When the Wizards were sitting at 2-1, following a home victory over a New Jersey team that is unquestionably the worst team in the league, players such as Gilbert Arenas and Brendan Haywood indicated that the Wizards, with new coach Flip Saunders at the helm, where simply a better team because Saunders was better at drawing up X's and O's.

However, since that Oct. 31 game, the Wizards have lost eight of their last nine games. Their lone win during that span came against a Cleveland team that was without starters Shaquille O'Neal and Anderson Varejao and playing its second game in as many nights.

To make matters worse, the Wizards have looked better with diminutive Earl Boykins at the point than they have with one-time All-Star Arenas on the floor.

The Wizards will have two days off before they face Jordan's Philadelphia, which is 5-8 and is on a two-game losing streak. Jordan was not happy about the way things ended in Washington and would love to beat his old team in the city where he was raised.

SPURS 106, WIZARDS 84: Off to their worst start in 13 years, the Spurs went into their game against the Wizards looking for a win -- and Washington delivered, rolling over and playing dead on the second game of a two-game road trip.

The Wizards had just 12 assists and made just 33 percent of their field goals in the blowout defeat. Gilbert Arenas had 18 points for the Wizards, who suffered their worst loss of the season.
