Roster Report

Roster Report · Notes, Quotes · Beefy big men are on Wizards' draft menu

MOST VALUABLE PLAYER
John Wall lived up to all of the expectations that accompany being taken with the top pick in the draft. Wall led all rookies in assists per game (8.4) and he was second among rookies in points per game (16.5).

MOST DISAPPOINTING PLAYER
The Wizards traded for Rashard Lewis because he has one less year on his contract than Gilbert Arenas. He was a flop and added very little. He wound up missing the last 19 games of the regular season with a knee injury.

BIGGEST NEEDS
The Wizards will be looking for a physical backup center to play behind JaVale McGee. They also need a shooting guard.

FREE AGENT FOCUS
The Wizards will consider re-signing Josh Howard but they are not going to make a huge push to keep him because of his injury problems. They will definitely tender Nick Young. However, don't expect them to go out of their way to keep Yi Jianlian.

PLAYER NOTES

--F Rashard Lewis, who missed more than 20 games at the end of the season because of a sore knee, is working out again, and sources say that he is looking pretty good. There is still some thought that he might have to undergo minor surgery on the knee.

--F Andray Blatche sounds as if he understands that he can't become the player the team wants him to be if he doesn't get his weight down over the offseason and, barring a trade, come in to camp in the low 250s. He talked about this extensively in his exit interviews, according to sources with knowledge of the situation.

--G Jordan Crawford will be looking to develop as a better passer in the offseason. Although he impressed many with his scoring after the Wizards acquired him from Atlanta, Crawford believes he can hand out better than the 2.8 assists he averaged in Washington.

MEDICAL WATCH

--No significant injuries.
