Mark Jackson fined $25,000: 'I don't like it and I disagree'

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Warriors coach Mark Jackson said on Thursday he disagrees with the NBA fining him for an "attempt to influence the referees" but vowed that his team won't be distracted by the fallout from the banter that's been exchanged since the end of Game 5.

"I don't like it," Jackson said before the Warriors hosted the Nuggets in Game 6 with a 3-2 series lead. "I don't like it and I disagree, and that will take care of itself. But at the end of the day, we've got a game at 7:30 and I'm excited about the opportunity that this team has in front of it. That's the most important thing right now. We will not get sidetracked by anything that's not on the track. We've got our blinders on and everything else will take care of itself."

Jackson said he was happy that the NBA did not fine him for criticizing the referees. Trying to influence? Criticize? It's all semantics, but Jackson said, "For two years now, I've taken pride in not ever criticizing the referees. And then reading the statement issued by the NBA, I'm extremely thankful that I am not fined for criticizing the referees."

Asked if influencing the referees was his intention, Jackson said, "No. That being said, we've got a game to play at 7:30."

Jackson unleashed a diatribe against the Nuggets after Golden State lost Game 5 in Denver, saying the Warriors had sent "hit men" after Stephen Curry. At one point, Kenneth Faried tried to trip Curry as he ran through the lane, and Curry was met with various other contact on both ends of the floor. Both teams have spent the past 48 hours lobbing accusations of dirty play at each other.

"At the end of the day, I think there's too much said," Jackson said. "We've got a lot of respect for that team. We've got a lot of respect for that coaching staff. We've got a lot of respect for what they've done.

"To be playing the No. 3 seed and be up 3-2 at home, if you are not enjoying this, you shouldn't be around here," Jackson said. "This is an awesome time, and I truly don't take it for granted. I smile; $25,000 lighter, but I'm smiling."
