Former Volunteers star Parker named SEC Female Athlete of Year

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Former Tennessee basketball player Candace Parker is the Southeastern Conference Female Athlete of the Year.

She was selected in a vote by the league's athletic directors announced Wednesday.

After leading Tennessee to back-to-back national championships, Parker chose to skip her final year of eligibility after graduating in May and was the No. 1 pick in the WNBA Draft by the Los Angeles Sparks.

Parker has amassed a number of awards. On Monday she was awarded the Honda-Broderick Cup as the nation's top female college athlete.

Parker joins former Lady Vols Chamique Holdsclaw, Daedra Charles and Bridgette Gordon, as SEC Female Athletes of the Year.
