Auriemma's daughter to write, not be paid by paper

HARTFORD, Conn. -- A newspaper that hired a daughter of Connecticut coach Geno Auriemma says she'll continue to write a monthly blog for its website but will no longer be paid.

Hartford Courant sports editor Jeff Otterbein said Saturday that Alysa Auriemma was paid for posts in July and August but won't be paid for future posts to "avoid any appearance of impropriety."

Earlier this month a Courant writer said Auriemma was hired to help cover the six-time national champions by writing blogs and stories and participate in question-and-answer sessions. The sports editor later clarified, saying Auriemma would be a "celebrity blogger" and her role would be re-evaluated.

Auriemma is a 23-year-old UConn grad. She says she hopes the blog will help her begin a writing career.
