Mock draft: Joeckel still No. 1, but explosive Jordan rises to No. 2

Luke Joeckel won't go away. For the third straight mock draft, he's at the top -- and for good reason. He's a perfect fit for the Chiefs, who addressed glaring needs with the additions of quarterbacks and cornerbacks. It's the rest of the board that gets juggled, with West Virginia's Geno Smith moving up the charts, thanks to last week's workout.

1. Kansas City -- Luke Joeckel, T, Texas A&M: They don't need cornerbacks, and Eric Winston just left. Besides, Branden Albert is signed for only one year.

2. Jacksonville -- Dion Jordan, DE, Oregon: He's the explosive playmaker that the Jags don't have on the outside.

3. Oakland -- Shariff Floyd, DT, Florida: Sooner or later, the Raiders must fix a defense that has more holes than the Nimitz Freeway. I say it's sooner.

4. Philadelphia -- Dee Milliner, CB, Alabama: Both starting cornerbacks are gone, so it's time to start solidifying a secondary that stunk.

5. Detroit -- Eric Fisher, T, Central Michigan: With Jeff Backus retiring, the Lions better have a quality tackle covering Matt Stafford's back.

6. Cleveland -- Ziggy Ansah, DE, BYU: I don't care how old he is. He's explosive and raw, with talent that GM Mike Lombardi can't pass.

7. Arizona -- Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia: The workout cinched a Top 10 finish and should have the Cards' attention. Their quarterbacks stink.

8. Buffalo -- Chance Warmack, G, Alabama: Andy Levitre is gone, and it's too high to take Matt Barkley. So the best guard on the board gets the call.

9. N.Y. Jets -- Jarvis Jones, LB, Georgia:The question is: Will he pass the physical? The Jets need players galore on defense, and Jones has top-5 ability.

10. Tennessee -- Jonathan Cooper, G, UNC: I know, they signed Andy Levitre. I don't care. They must start rebuilding a subpar offensive line.

11. San Diego -- Lane Johnson, T, Oklahoma: Just plug in the next available tackle here. The Bolts need tackles like Mission Beach needs shade.

12. Miami -- Xavier Rhodes, CB, Florida State: Sean Smith is gone, so there's an opening, and Rhodes is next best at this position.

13. Tampa Bay -- Star Lotulelei, DT, Utah: Put him alongside Gerald McCoy, and you have a solid defensive interior.

14. Carolina -- Sheldon Richardson, DT, Missouri: The Panthers could reach for a wideout, but their needs are defense, defense, defense, and this is a start.

15. New Orleans -- Bjoern Werner, DE/LB, Florida State: Another team that could use a defensive life jacket, with Werner the best outside rusher at this spot.

16. St. Louis -- Tavon Austin, WR, West Virginia: OK, so he's small. But he's electric, which is just what Sam Bradford needs to perk up the passing attack.

17. Pittsburgh -- Barkevious Mingo, DE/LB, LSU: James Harrison is gone, which means the Steelers could use an edge rusher. Meet the best one at this spot.

18. Dallas -- D.J. Fluker, T, Alabama: One tackle spot is settled, but it's the right tackle that's an issue. Not if Fluker's on the board it isn't.

19. N.Y. Giants -- Kenny Vaccaro, S, Texas: With the departure of Kenny Phillips, the Giants are thin at the position. Vaccaro makes perfect sense here.

20. Chicago -- Tyler Eifert, TE, Notre Dame: So the Bears signed Marcellus Bennett. Marc Trestman is running a passing circus, and he'll never have enough quality targets.

21. Cincinnati -- Alec Ogletree, LB, Georgia: My faith in this pick is fading. Nevertheless, if there's one team that can live with character flaws it's the Bengals.

22. St. Louis -- Matt Elam, S, Florida: A newcomer to this week's list. With the addition of tackle Jake Long, the Rams can afford to look for a Quintin Mikell replacement.

23. Minnesota -- Keenan Allen, WR, Cal: So the Vikings signed Greg Jennings. They need all the receivers they can get to take the heat off Adrian Peterson.

24. Indianapolis -- Johnathan Hankins, DT, UNC: When you play in a division with Arian Foster, you'd better plug the middle of the defense. Hankins can.

25. Minnesota -- Sylvester Williams, DT, UNC: Anyone with the last name of Williams is OK at defensive tackle in Minnesota. Cornerback another possibility here.

26. Green Bay -- Damontre Moore, DE/LB, Texas A&M: The last time I checked, Colin Kaepernick was still outrunning the Packers' edge defenders. That's got to stop.

27. Houston -- Cordarelle Patterson, WR, Tennessee: He shouldn't drop this far, but he could ... and the Texans would love to see it. Andre Johnson could use help outside.

28. Denver -- Eddie Lacy, RB, Alabama: Willis McGahee can't keep running until he's 50. Fresh legs are needed, and Lacy's the best back on the board.

29. New England -- Robert Woods, WR, USC: Another year, the same ol' problem: Finding Tom Brady a receiver. Woods is experienced and productive.

30. Atlanta -- Desmond Trufant, CB, Washington: The Falcons didn't make it to the Super Bowl because they couldn't defend the pass. This move addresses that problem.

31. San Francisco -- Zach Ertz, TE, Stanford: Jim Harbaugh recruited and coached him, so he knows what he has ... and he has a solid backup for Vernon Davis.

32. Baltimore -- Kevin Minter, LB, LSU: There's a gaping hole in the middle of the Ravens' defense. Minter fills it.
