Gregg Williams helps out tornado damage victims in Wichita, Kansas

By Will Brinson | NFL Writer
Gregg Williams is currently suspended indefinitely from coaching in the NFL. Once the 2012 season ends, Roger Goodell will review his status and decided whether or not to reinstate him.

So it would help if Williams was out there doing his best to teach people how bad bounty programs are. Or he could do charity work. Or he could show up to random houses with a chainsaw and help people clear tornado debris.

Wait, what? Oh right -- that's already happening. According to Channel 3 KSN in Wichita, Kansas, Williams was riding around with a chainsaw helping out people clear out debris from Saturday's tornado.

"We made the crack that it would be funny if someone would come help with a chainsaw, that would be great," area man Scott Lyon said. "About five minutes later, the white truck showed up with a couple gentlemen and they stepped out and said, 'Do you need some help?'"

Surely I'm not the only one who finds this to be some sort of combo of creepy, bizarre, fishy and hilarious right? Obviously it's "charitable" and great that Williams is out there helping out other people who are in need, but I'm sorry it's just weird.

Why does Gregg Williams have a chainsaw? How is he reading Scott Lyon's mind? Isn't it crazy how quickly this information got into the news? Why is he joking about bounties????

"Now don't be saying anything about my bounty head program and me having to leave,” Lyon recalls Williams saying. "I think he was trying to hint to me and I really didn't catch on. He said it with a playful tone."

Look, I don't think Williams is necessarily an evil human being or anything. That's not why I'm so perplexed/amazed by this story. And I don't necessarily think he did it just for publicity either.

But if, in the next few weeks, a local St. Louis newspaper snaps pictures of him looking shocked to be helping little old ladies cross downtown streets, I'm going to get a little suspicious.
