Bill Romanowski on threatening Cris Carter: He 'absolutely made this up'
Late Tuesday night, we wrote about Cris Carter's claim that he had placed bounties on opponents to protect himself from those who wanted to maim him.
“Protect me. . . . Protect me from him," he said on ESPN radio. "… Especially if he's playing a different position where I can't protect myself. I'd tell one of them guards, ‘Hey man, this dude is after me, man. Bill Romanowski.' He told me he's gonna take me out before the game, in warmups. No problem. ‘I'm gonna end your career, Carter.' No problem. I put a little change on his head before the game. Protect myself, protect my family. That's the league that I grew up in.”
Funny, that's not the story Romanowski was telling Wednesday.
Let Paul Pabst, the producer of the Dan Patrick Show, explain.
Romanowski did say he once took $500 from Ronnie Lott to sack a quarterback and that there wasn't a game in which "I didn't see stars numerous times," but he claims that's the only bounty in which he participated.
"I think he (Cris Carter) made this up to stay relevant ... in this league we have now,” Romanowski told Patrick.
And as far as the “change” Carter would pay to knock Romanowski out of the game, here's his response.
Now, we eagerly await Carter's rebuttal to the response. Or, you know, if both guys stopped talking, that'd be OK too.
