Report: Saints LB Jonathan Vilma plans to file injunction if NFL doesn't overturn suspension

Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma can't feel much hope to find success in his appeal of the year-long suspension given to him by commissioner Roger Goodell, especially since Goodell was the one hearing his appeal (just like Hines Ward knew would happen!).

In fact, Vilma didn't make it through the entire appeal hearing earlier this month. He and his attorney left after about an hour, calling the process a “sham.”

Now, according to WWLTV out of New Orleans, Vilma's attorney has informed Judge Helen G. Berrigan that Vilma will file an injunction in her federal court if Goodell doesn't rescind the suspension for Vilma's role in the bounty program.

That means, if Berrigan were to rule in favor of the injunction, Vilma theoretically could play until the courts figure out what to do with this whole process. Already, Vilma has filed a defamation case against Goodell in New Orleans federal court, and Berrigan has been assigned to that case.

This injunction, however, is not related to the defamation case.

The speculation has been that the NFL will rule on the appeals sometime this week.
