Report: Trent Richardson to undergo surgery Thursday

By Josh Katzowitz | NFL Writer

This is probably not the news the Browns wanted to hear, but according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, No. 3 overall pick Trent Richardson's latest knee problem will have to be fixed with arthroscopic surgery Thursday.

According to a newspaper source, the franchise running back “is definitely having the arthroscopic surgery today to remove [a] tiny piece of cartilage.”

Two days after it was reported that Richardson had a sore knee that might keep him out of the team's preseason opener, Richardson got the diagnosis by famed surgeon Dr. James Andrews, who performed Richardson's knee surgery last February.

No word on how long this latest procedure will keep Richardson out of action, but now you have to wonder if he'll be ready for the start of the regular season. It seems likely Montario Hardesty and Brandon Jackson will continue receiving plenty of reps in Richardson's place.

For now, football fantasy gurus Jamey Eisenberg and Dave Richard at the Fantasy Research Institute rank Richardson on the top-10 running backs list. If he's gone for a while, though, that likely will change.
